We are looking for volunteers to support residents on a one-to-one basis and get actively involved in planning and delivering an activities programme, ensuring it's diverse, stimulating and in line with our organisational goal of providing people with disability the opportunity to live their lives the way they choose - with the support to live independently. In order to achieve the overall aim, the following tasks will be at the core of the project: • To introduce new activities to the activities programme (with some limitations according to health and safety regulations) • To support residents with the activities they wish to do inside and outside the care home • To support residents in fulfilling personal long-term goals • To support fundraising efforts to raise funds that will support the above mentioned aim • To raise disability awareness for the participants and in the local community.

Llanhennock Lodge is 1.5 miles walk away from Caerleon, 5 miles away from Newport, and 17 miles away from Cardiff City. The volunteer accommodation at Llanhennock comprises of 2 individual bedroom units with en-suite. They are a good size and have a single bed and fitted wardrobes. Each of the rooms has their own locked door and are accessed from the first-floor corridor. There will be an adjacent room as a lounge room with comfy chairs and TV. There is Wi-Fi throughout the building. Each volunteer is provided with three meals per day from the service catering department.

Thorough training on working with vulnerable adults is provided to all our volunteers, and Leonard Cheshire staff helps volunteers during the induction process to understand each individual. Risk assessments ensure that volunteers are not asked to contribute outside of their capability or boundaries. Volunteers acquire a range of knowledge, skills and experience including a greater understanding of the issues affecting disabled people. They gain improved interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a wide range of people. There will also be an opportunity to learn about the charity.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers aged 18 - 30, who have a genuine interest, a good sense of humour, and passion for working with people with disabilities. No professional skills and experience is required, however it is recommended. It is a requirement that the volunteers can carry a conversation in English and understand basic instructions. Our residents ensure their home has a lively and friendly atmosphere. At their request, we offer a wide range of activities, including bingo, arts and crafts, trips to the cinema, board games and eating out.
