CAROLINA FOUNDATION-UA

The University of Alicante and the Carolina Foundation, within the scope of the framework agreement signed between both institutions in 2002, have developed several training programmes, implemented through the following specific agreements:

 

Fellowships offered by the Carolina Foundation. 2019/20 academic year.

APPLICATION DEADLINES:

  • Postgraduate fellowships: by 7 March, 9 am (Spanish time).
  • PhD fellowships, short stays, teaching mobility programmes and institutional studies: by 4 April 2019.

FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMMES

 

PhD fellowships for lecturers from Latin American universities

  • The PhD fellowships are intended to promote completion of PhD degrees among lecturers from Carolina Foundation partner universities from Latin America.
  • The fellowships run for 21 months over three consecutive years, distributed as follows:
    • During the first academic year (between 1 September 2019 and 31 July 2020), up to nine consecutive months (minimum stay length: 1 month).
    • During the second academic year (between 1 September 2020 and 31 July 2021), up to six consecutive months (minimum stay length: 1 month).
    • During the third academic year (between 1 September 2021 and 31 July 2022), up to six consecutive months (minimum stay length: 1 month).
  • The fellowship covers: 3 economy-class return flight tickets from the capital of the Latin American country of residence, one per academic year. Tuition fees, academic supervision (please note that admin fees are excluded and must be paid by the fellowship holder). Medical insurance (medication not included). €1,200 per month for board and lodging.
  • 2 fellowships offered by the UA.

Fellowships for Latin American lecturers wishing to undertake short stays at Spanish universities

  • These fellowships are aimed at lecturers from Carolina Foundation partner university centres from Latin America wishing to further their postdoctoral training through a short stay at Spanish universities or research centres.
  • The stay length is between one and three months. Fellowship holders under this postdoctoral short-stay programme must always be endorsed by a Spanish expert or host centre.
  • The fellowship covers: 1 economy-class return flight ticket from the capital of the Latin American country of residence. Medical insurance (medication not included). €1,200 per month for board and lodging.

Postgraduate (Master's) fellowships for Latin American or Portuguese graduates

  • Master's Degree in Communication and Creative Industry (2 fellowships):
  • Master's Degree in Planning and Management of Natural Hazards (1 fellowship, for female university graduates):
  • The postgraduate fellowships are aimed at university graduates from Latin American countries belonging to the Ibero-American Community of Nations or from Portugal, with an excellent academic or professional background, who wish to advance their education in Spain.
  • The fellowship will run from October 2019 to July 2020.
  • The fellowship covers: 1 economy-class return flight ticket from the capital of the grant holder’s Latin American country of residence. 50% of tuition fees. Medical insurance (medication not included). €750 per month for board and lodging during their stay in Spain.

Fellowships for lecturers from Argentine and Portuguese universities wishing to undertake short research stays

    • 15 fellowships aimed at lecturers from universities from the Argentine Republic who wish to undertake short stays (doctoral or postdoctoral) at Spanish universities or research centres.
    • The stay length will be three months, within the period between 1 September 2019 and 31 July 2020. The stay must always be endorsed by a Spanish expert or host centre.

    • 15 fellowships aimed at lecturers or researchers from Portugal’s public universities who wish to undertake short postdoctoral stays at Spanish universities or research centres.
    • The stay length will be from one to three months, within the period between 1 September 2019 and 31 July 2020.
  • The fellowship covers: 1 economy-class return flight ticket. Medical insurance (medication not included). €1,200 per month for board and lodging.

SEGIB fellowships for Master’s/PhD students and PhD graduates from Ibero-American universities wishing to undertake short research stays

  • 73 fellowships offered (also for Spaniards). At least 80% of all fellowships will be awarded to research projects by residents in Latin America who undertake research stays in Spain. The remaining 20% will be awarded to research projects by residents in Spain who undertake research stays in Latin America.
  • The stay length will be from three to six months, within the period between 1 September 2019 and 31 July 2020.
  • The fellowship covers: 1 economy-class return flight ticket from the capital of the fellowship holder’s country of residence plus the additional travel expenses needed to reach the destination city. Medical insurance (medication not included). €800 per month for board and lodging.

PhD fellowships for lecturers from universities based in member countries of the Pacific Alliance

    • The fellowships are intended to promote completion of PhD degrees among lecturers from Carolina Foundation partner universities based in member countries of the Pacific Alliance.
  • The fellowships will run for 21 months over three consecutive years, distributed as follows:
    • During the first academic year (between 1 September 2019 and 31 July 2020), up to nine consecutive months (minimum stay length: 1 month).
    • During the second academic year (between 1 September 2020 and 31 July 2021), up to six consecutive months (minimum stay length: 1 month).
    • During the third academic year (between 1 September 2021 and 31 July 2022), up to six consecutive months (minimum stay length: 1 month).
  • The fellowship covers: 3 economy-class return flight tickets from the capital of the Latin American country of residence, one per academic year. Tuition fees, academic supervision (please note that admin fees are excluded and must be paid by the fellowship holder). Medical insurance (medication not included). €1,200 per month for board and lodging.
  • 2 fellowships offered by the UA.

PhD fellowships. European Ibero-American Institute in Florence, Italy

  • Intended to promote completion of PhD degrees among nationals from Latin American countries belonging to the Ibero-American Community of Nations. Candidates must reside in Latin America and hold a university degree that meets the European Ibero-American Institute’s admission requirements.
  • The fellowship covers: 1 economy-class return ticket from the capital of the student’s country of residence (stay length: 36 months). Tuition fees. €1,200 per month for board and lodging.
  • 2 fellowships offered.

 

 

Leadership Programme for Young Ibero-American Students

Every year, students with the best academic records and proven social skills from over 300 public and private universities from the Ibero-American Community of Nations are carefully selected to participate in this programme.

The Leadership Programme for Young Ibero-American Students has proven to be an excellent way to boost medium and long-term cooperation and establish a network of young Ibero-American leaders, in an effort to raise awareness and strengthen relations between Latin American countries and Spain and Portugal.
