Awareness activities on the SDGs

The University of Alicante’s International Presence and Development Aid Office organises activities on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Approved by the United Nations in September 2015, the 17 SDGs, subdivided into 169 targets, are a challenge we must all rise up to in order to achieve a fairer, more sustainable world for the next generations.

Activities sponsored by the Valencia Region Government's Directorate-General for Cooperation and Solidarity.

 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED

Workshop: "Volunteering and the European Solidarity Corps"

  • Date: Tuesday 5 March, 12.30 p.m.
  • Venue: Lecture Building 2, assembly hall.
  • Overview: A talk of about 30 minutes to explain how UA students can take part in the European volunteering programme, in the framework of the solidarity activities promoted by the European Union.
    A great opportunity to stay in an EU country for between 3 and 12 months, with all expenses paid.

Workshop: "Set Your Own Sustainable Development Goals"

Do we want more sustainable societies?

Remember: you are a link of the chain towards sustainability.

 

  • Date: Tuesday 5 March, 1 p.m.
  • Venue: Lecture Building 2, lobby.
  • Overview: An award-winning workshop at the 1st “Communicating the SDGs” contest organised by the Valencia Region Government’s Directorate-General for Cooperation and Solidarity, spreading the word on the 17 SDGs through interaction and participation. 
  • Attendance is free

 

Course: “Curriculum integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into university teaching and learning”

  • Learning outcomes:
    • Learning about and properly understanding the nature of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the framework of the international development agenda.
    • Identifying cross-curricular teaching strategies allowing us to integrate the SDGs into university teaching.
    • Gaining the first teaching skills needed for communicating the SDGs to university students across the curriculum, in different undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

 REGISTRATION: from 27 February to 4 March inclusive

PLACES ARE LIMITED AND WILL BE ALLOCATED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS

  • Aimed at: UA lecturers and Master's degree students (field of education).
  • Date: Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 March, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Venue: Faculty of Education, lecture room ED/1-14.
  • Overview: Experts will share their experience in integrating the SDGs into university teaching.
  • Programme:

Tuesday 5 March (4.5 hour face-to-face session).

9 a.m.: Introduction to the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.

10 a.m. - 12 noon: Methodology for the inclusion of the SDGs in university teaching.

Break: from 12 noon to 12.30 p.m.

12.30 to 2 p.m.: Workshop on practical experiences in teaching with a cross-curricular gender approach.

 

Wednesday 6 March (4.5 hour face-to-face session).

9 to 10.30 a.m.: Workshop on practical experiences in integrating the SDGs into teaching.

Break: from 10.30 to 11 a.m.

11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.: Practical assignments on syllabus planning.

12.30 to 2 p.m.: Discussion and pooling of participants’ proposals.

 

 

TeatrODS

  • Date: Wednesday 6 March.
  • Venue: Polytechnic School, café, 1 p.m.
  • Overview: A theatre show by the group Ilewasi, giving a humorous explanation of the challenges posed by the 17 SDGs.
  • Attendance is free
